Best Vegan Leather Boots 2024 From my Own Experience

Updated: January 2024

Best Vegan Leather Boots
Best Vegan Leather Boots From Bohema

Are you in the market for vegan leather boots in 2024? Well, you’re in luck; the market is awash with choices that range in style, price, and material.

Today, companies use everything from apple to pineapple to create leather substitutes, and mostly, the results are fantastic. Vegan boots are just as comfortable and durable as the best traditional leather boots.

I’ve broken down dozens of styles and options into a list of my favorite boots of the year. If you’re looking for vegan leather chelsea boots, vegan leather ankle boots, vegan leather heeled boots, or vegan leather boots for men, there’s something for you. There are also options at many different price points, from the low-$100s up to the mid-$200s.

Let’s have a look at the best vegan leather boots 2024.

Best Vegan Leather Boots Overall

Bohema Workers No. 2 Desserto®

My #1 vegan leather boot for 2024 is the Workers No. 2 Desserto® Cactus Leather Boots in black. These gorgeous boots are made with cactus leather uppers and a mesh interior that keeps my feet cool throughout the day without the shoes feeling cheap or thin. Plus, the cactus leather looks just like real leather! I don’t think anyone could really tell the two apart.

The boot material is made by Desserto®, a company founded by Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, two animal lovers who wanted to find an alternative to traditional leather. The materials first came to market in July 2019 and have since been used in a variety of products.

The shoes are manufactured by Bohema, a small company that started in Poland in 2013 and is responsible for creating Poland’s first pineapple leather shoes. They’ve also created leather using wine, cork, and cactus.

They value ethically produced products that are also sustainably generated and are entirely vegan. I really love that with this brand, you don’t have to compromise on fashion, especially in the shoe world. It’s still tricky to find cute, high-quality boots that are ethically made, and Bohema is doing a great job filling that gap.

The company works in a solar-powered facility to further promote sustainability across the label. Plus, I always love that their products come packaged with recycled materials and entirely without plastic.

Pros

  • The boots are made from unique cactus leather.
  • They are created in an ethically sustainable environment.
  • The boots are stylish and durable.

Cons

  • They are more expensive than most people will want to pay.
  • They are not widely available in stores to try on.

Their leather is made from cotton, polyester, and nylon but looks so similar to traditional leather that you won’t be able to tell the difference.

Their organic cotton is grown from natural seeds and is not exposed to pesticides at any time during the process. Will’s vegan boots are some of my favorites. I currently own several pairs, and they’ve lasted for years! They’re a far better choice than most “fake” leather boots on the market, plus they are 100% vegan.

These boots are truly sustainable, too. Will’s is a great company and works to make all of its products as environmentally safe as possible. The boots are delivered in carbon-neutral packaging. Plus, you can return them for up to 365 days without charge.

Best Vegan Leather Ankle Boots

Isabella Grain Leather Heeled Ankle Boots

These unique heeled ankle boots are, amazingly, made of grain leather. They are handmade in Spain and have a lovely curved toe and a block heel. The leather is smooth, realistic, and feels great against your skin. Unlike some vegan leather boots, I’ve never found that these suffocate my feet or make them extra sweaty on a hot day.

The Good Guys boots are made of stylish and comfortable apple leather that will keep all your friends guessing as to whether or not they’re real leather. The material is created in Bolzano, Italy, and is made of a minimum of 50% apple fiber. They also come with a pull tab and laces to make getting the boots on and off very easy.

Good Guys is a great company that I keep going back to time and time again. Their boots make fantastic gifts for anyone who loves the environment and animals or is questioning how good vegan boots really are! They’re a vegan company from France that makes 100% vegan products and are close to becoming 100% recyclable.

The company also makes cowboy boots, motorcycle boots, and sandals, none of which you’ll be able to tell were made from animal-free leather. Read my full Good Guys Don’t Wear Leather Review Here.

Pros

  • The boots are easy to get on and off.
  • They are very comfortable with almost no “break in” time.

What To Consider When Buying Vegan Leather Boots?

If you are in the market for the best vegan leather boots 2024, there is more to consider than whether or not the company uses 100% vegan leather. There are dozens of companies creating stylish vegan leather boots at the moment. But, not all of these companies, or their products, are created equal.

Are the Boots 100% Vegan?

There are those working entirely with synthetic leather (commonly known as pleather) that is, in some ways, just as detrimental to the environment as traditional leather. They were also companies that cut corners and did not produce 100% vegan products. Why buy vegan leather boots when other parts of the shoe are still made from animal products?

If possible, take a look at the materials list and make sure that you don’t see any suede, wool, fur, or animal hide of any kind. Some companies may still use glue made from animal parts as well, technically making the boots not vegan. You might also consult Peta and the vegan products they’ve certified as 100% cruelty-free. That way, you’ll know for sure that you’re supporting a company doing the right thing.

When you are looking for vegan boots this year, make sure that every part of the shoe is produced sustainably and is cruelty-free. This includes the leather and the rubber soles. If you investigate the market, you’ll find that companies use everything from apple to cork to cactus to create vegan leather substitutes. There are wonderful examples of each that you’ll have to choose from, each with its own price point. The more cutting-edge products are usually, the more expensive.

Read the Reviews

Additionally, it’s important to read the reviews and choose a product that is both comfortable and durable. As we all know, some shoes never seem to break in. You don’t want to be stuck with a pair of expensive boots that you’re never comfortable in and that you can’t return. You may also want to spend the time finding a company that accepts returns, even after several months.

Style

While sustainability is incredibly important as you browse the marketplace, it is only one part of a larger equation you are going to be analyzing when searching for new vegan boots. Style is also incredibly important. Are you looking for Chelsea boots? Combat boots, ankle-high boots, boots with a heel, or something in between? Not every company produces the same styles of boots, so take your time and make sure you consider all of your options when it comes to the styling of your new boots.

Why Trust Me & TopVeganShoes.com?

I launched my own vegan shoe brand from scratch. Through that process I learned everything what goes to produce quality vegan shoes. I negotiated materials and production to ensure a quality product.

Through that learning process I am confident I can transparently offer a great and trustworthy review.

Also, I have operated this site since early 2020, almost daily keeping up with the market to keep my eyes open for new innovative materials, production styles and new players in the market.

I also buy many of the shoes and actually try them, wear them to create even better review. In addition, we scour feedback online to see if other people’s experience of the shoes are similar to ours.

FAQs

I want you to have all the information about this topic, so I’ve gathered a couple of common questions and respective answers.

Are vegan leather boots durable?

Yes! Most vegan leather boots are very durable. While not every shoe is created equal, the best non-leather boots last just as long, if not longer, than traditional cowhide boots.

What is vegan leather made of?

Many different products might be incorporated into faux leather or plant leather shoes. These include apple, cork, pineapple, cactus, and more. Companies are continually making advances in the materials they use to create vegan boots, and if you’re looking for a new pair, you will have more than a few choices to consider.

How to clean vegan leather boots?

Cleaning Vegan leather boots is easy. The most efficient way is to wipe them clean with a damp cloth. You should also soak the cloth first in soapy water if they are very dirty.

How to stretch vegan leather boots?

You can stretch vegan leather boots with applying heat to them or by using a spray or an oil that stretches leather. Vegan leather doesn’t stretch as much as leather.

How to soften vegan leather boots?

You can soften vegan leather boots by applying some heat to them. Also, vegan leather will soften with time. So start slowly with new vegan leather boots.
